How TryBazi Calculates a BaZi Chart
TryBazi converts a birth date, local time, and birthplace into the Year, Month, Day, and Hour Pillars. It uses solar-term boundaries and location-aware true solar time, then separates deterministic chart calculation from AI-assisted interpretation.

Calculation Steps
1. Resolve birthplace and historical time zone
TryBazi converts the birth city into latitude and longitude, then resolves the time-zone offset for the supplied birth date. This matters because daylight-saving and historical offsets can differ from the location’s current clock setting.
2. Correct clock time to true solar time
The calculator adjusts local clock time using birthplace longitude, the standard time-zone meridian, and the equation of time. True solar time is used for the Hour Pillar and for the traditional Zi-hour day boundary that begins at 23:00.
3. Calculate year and month by solar terms
BaZi uses the Chinese solar calendar rather than Chinese New Year or Gregorian month boundaries. The Year Pillar changes at Li Chun, while Month Pillars change at the relevant seasonal nodes.
4. Calculate day, hour, and Day Master
The birth day is mapped to the sexagenary cycle to produce the Day Pillar. Its Heavenly Stem is the Day Master. The corrected solar hour and Day Stem determine the Hour Pillar.
5. Count the visible Five Elements
Each visible Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch is mapped to Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, or Water. TryBazi reports this visible distribution as an accessible starting point; a complete practitioner analysis may also weigh seasonality and hidden stems.
6. Generate a chart-grounded interpretation
The AI reading receives the calculated pillars, Day Master, chart strength, and Five Element counts. It is instructed to tie claims to those chart facts, avoid deterministic predictions, and describe tendencies rather than guaranteed outcomes.
What Happens When Birth Time Is Unknown?
TryBazi uses 12:00 local time when no birth time is supplied. The Year, Month, and Day Pillars can still be calculated, but the Hour Pillar should be treated as a placeholder. Any conclusion that depends on the Hour Pillar is therefore less reliable until the actual time is provided.
Calculation vs. Interpretation
The Four Pillars and Five Element data are calculated before any AI text is generated. The interpretation layer explains patterns from that structured chart; it does not change the pillars.
BaZi is a traditional interpretive system, not a scientifically validated forecasting method. TryBazi presents chart-based tendencies for reflection and entertainment, not medical, legal, financial, or guaranteed future advice.
