Level 2: Day Master Analysis (Weeks 4–8)

The Day Master is the central pillar of BaZi mastery. Until you understand your Day Master deeply, all other analysis lacks a reference point.

Assess Day Master strength. A strong Day Master has significant support from the same element in the surrounding pillars and branches. A weak Day Master is surrounded by elements that control or drain it. This assessment — strong vs. weak — fundamentally changes how you interpret every other element in the chart. Wealth stars, career stars, and output stars all play opposite roles depending on whether the Day Master is strong or weak.

Combinations (合). Certain branch pairs combine to produce a new element or strengthen each other. The Six Combinations (六合) — Zi+Chou, Yin+Hai, Mao+Xu, Chen+You, Si+Shen, Wu+Wei — each produce a harmonizing pull. Three-harmony combinations (三合) involve three branches forming an elemental triangle.

Clashes (冲). Six pairs of branches directly oppose each other: Zi↔Wu, Chou↔Wei, Yin↔Shen, Mao↔You, Chen↔Xu, Si↔Hai. Clashes don't mean disaster — they signal disruption, movement, and transformation. When a clash activates in a luck cycle, it marks a period of significant change.

Penalties (刑) and Harms (害). Less discussed but equally important in advanced reading. Self-penalty branches (Yin-Si-Shen, Chou-Xu-Wei, Zi-Mao) indicate specific relational and behavioral patterns. Harm branches create subtle, chronic friction rather than acute disruption.

Hidden Stems. Each Earthly Branch hides one to three Heavenly Stems within it. These hidden stems are activated by specific luck cycles and explain why a chart can "switch on" new characteristics at different life stages.

Level 5: Luck Pillars and Annual Cycles (Months 6–12)

1. Treating elements in isolation

Beginners often learn that Water = wisdom, Wood = growth, Fire = passion — and then read those meanings into every occurrence of those elements. 2. Skipping Day Master strength assessment

4. Reading chart interactions without checking timing

A clash between two branches in the natal chart doesn't activate continuously — it activates when triggered by a luck cycle or annual pillar. Seeing a Zi-Wu clash in a chart and saying "this person has unstable relationships" misses the point. The question is when that clash activates, and what it means in that period.

5. Not generating your chart first
